Reviews of my Novella's so far

Released: March 3rd 2025
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"An incredible novella, filled with amazing writing, twists and turns, and characters that you couldn’t help wanting to know more about.Blue is a dark fantasy novella that has mysteries, magic, and maybe even a little rebellion! Truly a one of a kind novella that I couldn’t recommend more!"

"This short Novella is written beautifully, The world building is comparable to that of Terry Brooks, and Marion Zimmer Bradley.
She has built us a world full of history and magic. The character building helps draw you into the story of secrets and deception.
Blue will have you waiting on pins and needles for the following Novellas and the main Novel still to come. This is truly a must read."

"I have received an ARC copy of Blue.
I could best describe this little novella as a tease.
Or at least that's the affect Jennifer had on me with it. She teased my brain, but frankly, all of my senses as well, from time to time. (Especially with the divine smell of the candles she described!)
I have sent her a detailed feedback (well, it was mostly my full stream of consciousness as I was reading along), full of my theories and rhetorical questions, when I finished with it, because it's just that interesting of a short story.
I was immediately transported somewhere else with the artwork she did. I liked that the chapters had individual chapter names (I do hope they will make a comeback in general).
I was curious and suspicious of everything and everyone at the same time and I loved every second of it.
I am looking forward to meeting the other characters in the background."

⭐⭐⭐⭐

"This is a very beautifully written novella, it’s a little slow pace but it’s heavy on world and character building. Jennifer has a way of writing that lets you truly envision the world around the characters. Once again it’s given me a small taste of what’s to come in the final novel and I’m so looking forward to it."

"I had the pleasure of reading this novella for Jennifer as an ARC reader!! I absolutely loved her descriptive storytelling and the way she sets the scenes. Personally, I think that her writing style would be better suited by longer books, which I am certain are on the way. The concepts and world systems that are in place are intriguing, and the characters are complex and likeable."

"A short, wonderfully written novella.
The White Rook is a great introduction to a new world and a set of characters with complex dynamics growing among one another.
I love the writing; there are wonderful descriptions of the world and character perspectives that brought me into the story. The novella was more character and world-driven than plot, which made for a slower-paced read, and there were instances of events being alluded to, which kept me simultaneously curious and a little confused. I felt like I needed just a little more context/ basis to make me more invested in the characters and to make the events happening more impactful. But overall, this was a quick read that kept me curious and ready for more. I’m excited to see more from this author!"

Kingsbane in its rawest form will be the bane of my existence. Swear I'm not exaggerating. Jennifer has managed to do something extraordinarily special → Surprise meThat is something my most favourite authors have often failed to do.
She took away the comfort of "knowing it all" from under my pillow and placed it under her words with such finality. I DID NOT SEE THE ENDING COMING. The book is full of unexplained wonders, unrestricted kindness, strong sapphic undertones and that special touch that makes it wild and holy.
The start of the first few chapters were so beautiful and confusing, as if they were not merely introductions but hymns written to worship the female form and existence. The Raven, the cursed women, the dragon that hate — loves the Raven with its being and the Knight of Roses all were well written and realistic without shedding even an ounce of originality and magic. The poem in the end just makes my heart sing and hurt. I can't decide if I want to be the Raven or The Knight of Roses. Both are beautiful. The subtle sense of Community built around fires for and by women was extremely comforting.I'm so glad I stayed up and read this. Totally worth it.A must read

The world

The myths, people and folklore...

The Fantasy World of Gemadilia

The world of Gemadilia is steeped in blood and centuries of war. A power-hungry monarchy (Goldenblood) rules both hemispheres, driven by the desire to control magic itself.Yet magic is not an artifact or a weapon; it is life in abundance, and when the monarchy sought to seize it, the flow turned instead into its people, most often the women. Declaring them “cursed,” these women were chained under oppression until they rose up, sparking a rebellion that shattered a king’s army and toppled his rule.Humiliated, the armies birthed the Magei: an elite order forged from wounded pride. Backed by scholars who bound them to eldritch horrors through life pacts, the Magei became assassins, sworn to hunt the afflicted and smother the rebellion. Now they stand as both protectors and executioners in the eyes of the people.Across Gemadilia, the tribes and kingdoms grasp for power while an uneasy peace holds.Yet prophecy stirs in whispers, calling for a balance that will demand blood before it can ever be restored.

The Three Tribes

The three warring factions within Gemadilia

The Goldenblood

The MonarchyThey are called the 'Goldenblood' for within their veins lay a mixture of blood within the crimson. The Kings rule as absolute sovereigns, their word normally unquestioned. However, the Magei established their own safeguard: every king is bound to an Arch Cleric. The Cleric is both advisor and leash. Officially, they help the king manage the chaotic currents of magic flowing through the land. In truth, they exist to enforce the “cult laws.”If a king ever dares to ally with or protect a magic-wielder, the very people the monarchy declared “cursed” the Cleric has authority to intervene. It is a common custom for a King to name his heir after himself, the more generations tied to a name, the greater that family is considered to be.

The Magei

Cultist Army of AssassinsThe Magei are an elite, secretive force established by the Kings and the AeveA to suppress the Rebellion and control the spread of chaotic magic. Though they masquerade as holy protectors, they are cultists, assassins, and zealots; men raised from boyhood to serve and deliver justice.Magei gain their power through life oaths made to the Old Ones eldritch horrors buried beneath the surface of reality. In exchange, they are gifted access to shade and shadow abilities that allow them to disappear, strike unseen, and speak without breath. They do not use nature’s magicThey wield absence; what happens when life is pulled away

The Rebellion

The AmazonsFor nearly two hundred years the rebellion has held back the monarchs’ armies, carving out two isolated territories far from the ordinary life of Gemadilia. Hidden deep in their forests, they move as if they are part of it. They keep their faces concealed behind animal masks (most often birds) for any who dare to stray too close. They follow their own monarchy, though it is a constitutional and matriarchal one. Their refuge draws mostly young women who awaken to their abilities and flee persecution, finding safety only within the rebellion’s ranks. The rebellion’s goal is survival, not conquest. They seek to bring balance and prove that coexistence with the chaotic magic of life is not only possible but necessary for all. They reject the kings’ claim to the land, yet they are not driven by greed or ambition—only by the need to endure.

The Myths within...

Learn about the ancient myths within Gemadilia

The Wicker Portals

They grew naturally, as if they were a gift to those who wanted to see beyond the world. There are runes to activate near the base. Slowly over the years they have began to unwind, the way had been shut for so long. Unused, there are only two that still hold their frame. One in the south, one in the library of Dazael.

The Dragons

All the dragons are dead. Even their bones were destroyed as if they wipe the very memory of them out. There is still one skeleton that remains on King's Isle that is covered in black sand. They say that the dragons knew the language of the stars and thus how to use the wicker portals.

The Cursed

As if afflicted with a sickness those deemed 'cursed' were to be removed from normal society so it doesn't infect others. The scholars have narrowed down the signs of those who are afflicted. It can only infect the women. It twists their nature, turning them defiant, cruel and violent. They have a sudden obsession with the woods and says they can hear a song chanting from it.They are haunted by vivid dreams that often come to pass.

The Old Ones

Eldritch horrors that remain sleeping in the depths of the world. Their names are never to be known but the Magei believe that by offering up their lives for their consumption will ensure that they awaken and serve them for their sacrifice. Whether the OLD ONES truly exist or not has always been up for discussion.

The Nine Signs

Through out the last hundreds of years there is a pattern when it comes to the signs that the Seers often foresee. They have become so well known that they are now known as the 'nine' signs.
